We'll use a typical track plan for the demonstration. This one is John Riley's N scale Canadian Empire.

Open Tools / Options / Environment. Select 30 FPS, write AVI file.

Swap to 3D, set Window / Size to 640 x 480.

For this demo, I turned on Viewpoints and set Follow on the locomotive.

Press Alt+Z (View / Record 3D). Choose location and file name.

After you press save, you will see a new dialog box. Choose this codec. If you hit OK and it dings, use a different codec. Not all will work on your system or OS, so trial and error may be necessary.

When you press OK, recording begins. I moved the throttle to full speed. Hit Alt+Z to stop recording or use View / Record 3D. You will find a large AVI file in the location you selected. It was converted to MP4 using Miro.
