    Hi Randy,

I am getting a new PC and it will have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

My version of 3PI is 8.06.004.1385

Have you tested 3PI with Windows 7 yet, if so how does it play with Windows 7?

    Regards,

    Rod

    Randy!!!

Do you monitor your own forum???

A response would be nice, even if the response is I do not have Windows 7 so I can not comment at this time!!!

      Re: Windows 7

Randy had a hard drive crash on him. He is taking the time now to upgrade to windows 7 and new versions of visual studio for program development. We are testing versions to update the install process to the proper folder locations for windows 7 and vista. 3pi does work with windows 7, but there were some issues with the location of library files and user security.

Oh... thank you for stepping in for me, Dan.

He's right, we're finishing off a Windows 7 compatible release that should be available shortly.

Sorry to hear about your HD Randy and thanks for replying.

So I got 3PI installed on my new Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit PC and so far everything is fine except for one thing.

I have a layout and the file is 238.7 Meg. I have a bunch of plans that the file size is less than 50K and when I go to 3D mode the 3D layout pops up just fine, but on the 238.7 Meg layout when I go to 3D the program does its thing, the box pops up with the engines going across the box and the counter counts down, but when the counter gets down to zero, just before the program usually goes into 3D, the counter just sets and flashes at zero for awhile and the I get a Windows 7 error message that the 3PI program has stopped working and do I want to check online for a solution or close the program.

          Do you have any ideas?

One other thing, I could load the small files just fine, but to get the large file to load and I had to start running 3PI in XP compatibility mode.

          Regards,

          Rod

what kind of video card?? and maybe update your drivers. Try turning on/off half the layers at a time. Try the top half, then the bottom half. Then do half of the layer set that shows the problem again. Should take no more than 7 attempts, unless it is more than one layer.

The video card is a BFG Tech GTX 285 OCFU. I am not at home so I do not know the exact driver, but it is above 190.XX, I think it is 191.XX. My old PC used a 8800GTX and the drivers were 180.XX as I recall.

How do I turn off layers and I will give your idea a try.

              Thanks for the response Dan!

                Re: Windows 7

Sounds like a great video card. I've got a BFG Tech GTX260.

Couple of things to try first. Open the file in v9, save it to a new name. Close 3pi and open the new file. Check the file size now and it should be msaller than what it was. Changes were made to how things were stored internally. There is also another option that was added to save texture files inside the 3pi file or externally. This is under files, Settings, ... Picture attached.

Another thing to look at is Display lists for groups, under Ctrl+ALT+Shft+D, for the Diagnostics window. There is a limit to how many items opengl can process in one display list. Try checking this box. Picture attached.

Then try looking at the layers that you have visible. Screenshot attached showing how to get to the layer list. The checkboxes on the left side turn the layers on/off. You can also setup layers lists that automatically turn these layers on/off as you choose. A layer can be used under multiple lists if you desire. Hopefully you don't have all of this file in one layer.

If this fails, upload the file into the file exchange section of the forum and we'll have Randy take a look at it. It could be the largest file we've ever seen.

Might want to post a screenshot of your layer list window, so we can see how many objects are in each layer. Might give Randy a clue into what is going on.

Just a quick note... somehow, I'm not getting notifications of postings to parts of the forum. I apologize for not having replied before now.

Next, I'll read it. After that, I'll find out what is happening to my notification e-mails.

                          Thanks Randy and Don!

I do not see how to get to a v9 link in this forum, please guide me to a link and I will download and try v9. I will also try Dan's other suggestions tonight or tomorrow and let you know how it went.

I am running v8.06.004.1385 right now.

                            Randy,

I found the link to v9 and I have downloaded and installed v9. I have also just sent in my upgrade payment so please email me my activation number so that I can activate v9 and continue the testing.

                            Thanks!

Don't bother with my suggestions until you have v9.

                              see this thread.
